Need to Know....

  • NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS MAY 18

There will be no school for students on Friday, May 18.

Spring Street Academy teachers and educational assistants will be engaged in professional development.

In the morning, staff will receive Safer Spaces training from staff of Public health. The goal of the training

is to increase positive support and visibility of the LGBTQ communities.

In the afternoon Education Services Consultant Nancy Letcher will provide training in the workshop model

as it relates to various subjects taught by our teachers, while our EAs will be making materials to support

    specific students.

  • Running Club

Our running club is in full swing. The goal of the club is to promote and encourage the activity of running.

The 11-session program will allow participating students an opportunity to accumulate enough training to complete a final 2-4 km run at the completion of the program.

Runs take place on the school grounds on Tuesday and Thursdays until June 5 from 2:35-3:00 PM. Running will take place in light rain but will be rescheduled if heavy rain.

To participate in the final run, each child is expected to have completed 10 of 12 after school runs. If other conflicts prevent a child from participating in a school run, a simple note from

home stating that the child has completed a running session outside or our scheduled time will count as a valid run. The final run will be held on Thursday, June 7 at 1:15 PM.

All participating students must have a signed permission form from home.

  • Nutrition Tip

Salsa is a healthy snack and easy to make from scratch. Chop up tomatoes, garlic and onions. Try a little salsa with veggies for lunch!

  • Ask your child about...

We will do our best to regularly add discussion topics to this space to engage your child in conversation at home.

These topics can be a nice replacement for the standard question, "How was your day?"

    * Tell me about the visit from Brad Farquhar. Talk about some of the adventures he's had.

    * Talk about your favorite outdoor activity as the weather warms up?

    * What other activities would you like to see on the playground? Be sure to encourage your child to tell us in the office. :)

    * SSA has a buddy bench. Can you talk about why we have it and how it's used?

    * What makes you a good friend?

  • Upcoming Seussical Rehearsals

Students are asked to tell Ms. McIntyre or Mrs. Brunt if you are unable to attend a practice.

  • Playground Access Notice

Keeping our students safe is important to all of us. For that reason and in response to concerns raised by parents and staff, we ask that the playground area be reserved to students and staff only between the hours of 8:25 AM and 2:45 PM. All parents/guardians/siblings/pets are kindly asked to remain outside the playground area. As such, we ask that our families accompany their children to the edge of our playground at the beginning of the day and allow their children to play/socialize independently until the bell rings. Children will walk to their designated entry door on their own. We also encourage parents/guardians who pick up their children at the end of the day to wait along the edge of the playground and establish a meeting spot in those areas.

The playground is an extension of our school and often used as an outdoor classroom throughout the day.  The same check-in process is necessary for the playground as inside our building. Parents/guardians who wish to be on the playground within the hours noted above are required to sign into the office and pick up a visitor’s tag. An exception to this guideline will be made for our licensed daycare providers who drop off/pick up a number of children each day. These changes are supported by our School Advisory Council which is comprised of parents, community members and staff.

  • Allergy Safe

This is a reminder that Spring Street Academy endeavors to be an allergy safe school so please help us to keep our students safe.  We have several students with life threatening allergies. There are many nut free snacks available and we would ask that parents NOT send items containing nuts of any kind to school (including peanut butter and Nutella). Though we cannot guarantee that those items will not show up from time to time we try to be vigilant. Please make us aware in the office of any students who have severe allergies of any kind.

  • May Menu

Please be advised that the May cafeteria menu is posted on this site. It can be found under the About SSA tab labeled "cafeteria menu."

  • Student Arrival on Playground

Parents and guardians are reminded that students are NOT to be on school grounds before 8:25 am in the morning. Morning supervision does not begin at school until then and the safety and security of your child is at risk as a result. Thank you for your helping us to keep your children safe.

  • Proof of Address for Revenue Canada

Effective immediately, SSA will no longer provide letters stating a child's address for use by Revenue Canada. Schools are under no obligation to provide this information. Parents/guardians are advised to contact their family doctor, dentist, church, etc. for this information. Thank you!
